@Saoiray⦠Thanks! That was it. I didnāt know anything about Widevine.
Nice that it can be activated directly in Braveās āSettingsā (i.e., Google download/install not required).
Yeah, just one of those things widely used across the internet. Basically functionality in browsers to protect copyrighted materials. So like if you try to screen record the videos or whatever, it will show up just as blank video boxes. The whole prevent piracy thing.
Obviously there are workarounds and all, but just is at least a ābest effortā thing to stop basic misuse of all those things. If not active, then they wonāt let it play because it wouldnāt have the protections.
@mk7z Widevine would only be for the ones refusing to play the copyrighted stuff, primarily like on YouTube TV, Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc.
For issue as youāre speaking, Iām not quite sure where the problem would be. Essentially would go through basic troubleshooting steps as usual to see if any of them give clues.
Guess quick reminder on the more basic troubleshooting steps, trying each as its own independent step. (donāt do multiple at once. Revert back if no improvement)
Check for updates = Common sense, but make sure browser is most recent and check if everything at brave://components is good.
Disable Shields = to see if they are blocking or breaking anything
Private window to check if extensions or cookies are to blame. If it works on this, then you know itās one of the two, at which point have to clear cookies and/or play with extensions until you figure out which is doing.
Second browser profile = Same as above, but more thorough. Also can indicate settings.
Disable Graphics Acceleration = Well, for video issues. Just makes sure itās not a GPU compatibility problem (Settings ā System is where toggle is).
Install/test on Brave Beta and/or Brave Nightly = Just to see if itās version specific. If it works here but not on normal, either itās something like flags enabled or it might be an issue thatās fixed in release.
Test on Chrome = If all of the above fails, good to know if it also happens on Chrome or if it seems to be only Brave having the problem.
You wonāt always find the answers in there, but it seems the vast majority of problems get located somewhere in those steps. Then itās just narrowing it down further from there.
@Saoiray⦠Thanks, Iāll be going through those.
I can confirm at this time that Shields down has had no effect.
Also, that the videos do play in Safari.
Your suggestions that involve browser upgrading (including Beta/Nightly) arenāt available to me as Iām limited to (and by) my current macOS, the last one supported by both Apple and Brave.
Iāll follow up further re your other suggestions.
