Why are topics automatically closed in just 30 days?

Why are topics automatically closed in a mere 30 days? Why is a topic automatically closed when the topic is still valid and unresolved? Every time I come across a Brave browser issue and find a topic here that applies, the topic is already closed for discussion.

@PaddyMcQ bigger question is why you have any thought that topics should be kept open longer?

TL:DR = Topics are automatically closed after 30 days of inactivity to help keep the forum organized and focused on current discussions. This helps reduce spam and ensures that new issues are addressed in fresh threads, rather than buried in older ones where context may be outdated.

Some things to consider:

  1. Open topics should be people who are actively having issues. Closing topics helps make sure people helping with issues or other users having problems can better sort through to relevant details

  2. When solved, many users tend to never return back to mark a solution. Then you end up with millions of “open” topics. This is related to #1 and #3.

  3. When topics are left unlocked, people have horrible habits of necroing old things…often which have absolutely nothing to do with their issue. Such as a topic from 2022 where someone posted about their browser crashing on their Windows 7 running Brave 1.47.186. Then JoeSchmo replies to that in 2025 to speak about how their browser is loading slowly…they are on Android running Brave 1.79.126. Completely different years, OS, browser versions, and even issues. Or where someone has a post open about ads not being blocked on YouTube and someone replies to ask why they haven’t gotten their Rewards payment yet.

3.5 . Also should note that even when there’s a same symptom, it’s not always the same issue. So even if the thread is about your browser crashing and you post about your browser crashing…most likely the cause and solution will be different. Especially if the one was from 2022 and the other is 2025. Having separate topics for each and people providing all the details on their browser, OS, etc is more helpful than having one single topic with more info than anyone can ever pay attention to.

  4. Updates tend to happen at least every 30 days. A user having issues should be reporting back when the update happens and advise if the problem still continues.

  5. Kind of related to that…anyone sincerely having problems isn’t just going to vanish for 30+ days.
