Why am I seeing ads on Gmail?

Hi.
So I signed into Gmail today for the first time since Braving out.

What?! I am seeing ads on the top!

First of all, I did not even know that Gmail serves adds! Eww!

Second, why is Brave not blocking these?

Confused about this.

Brave protects you from being tracked across the web. This blocks most ads because they’re not part of the site you’re visiting and are trying to track you from site to site. But Gmail ads are part of Gmail — they don’t involve sharing your info with anyone else.
