Website locking up Brave - Raspberry Pi

Description of the issue:
Websites locking up brave

Exact URL of the website in question:

  1. connect.raspberrypi.com
  2. local URL for NAS

Did the issue present with default Shields settings? (yes/no)
Yes. No changes to shields settings yet

Does the site function as expected when Shields are turned off?
unknown - haven’t figured out how to turn shields off.

Is there a specific Shields configuration that causes the site to break? If so, tell us that configuration. (yes/no): No

Does the site work as expected when using Chrome? Yes

Brave version (check About Brave):
Version 1.76.81 Chromium: 134.0.6998.166 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Raspberry Pi’s new web based SSH/VNC type product is failing to load pre-login, will cause brave to become non-responsive, and mouse is cycling between arrow and hand icons when hovering over Brave.

I’m new to brave, and don’t know how to adjust shields to test if they are able to work without them.

In addition, my NAS’ website to control it is causing complete lockup of Brave, no icon cycling this time. I use a Synology NAS.

In both cases, I have to give the three finger salute and force close brave.

Guidance would be nice on how to adjust shields settings or, a fix provided.

You might search the Brave Community for other users of Raspberry Pi, using criteria “Raspberry” . . . and tag them.

Browser tabs are crashing on Raspberry Pi 5

Keep getting Error Code 5 in Raspbian 5 version of Brave

Tips regarding Brave Shields:

I have more success, with:

  • Brave Shields UP
  • Either Allow All Cookies or Block 3rd Party Cookies, but NOT Blocking All Cookies
  • Allowing JavaScripts from specific sources, but NOT Allowing All JavaScripts
  • Trackers & Ads treatment: Aggressive (at first), and then incrementally relaxing that setting
  • Fingerprinting (aka footprinting) blocking: Strict (at first), and then incrementally relaxing that setting

I almost NEVER use:

  • All of Brave Shields UP
  • All of Brave Shields DOWN

Okay, Here’s my issue, then:

Configure site-specific Shields settings

To locate site-specific Shields settings,

  1. Visit any website in Brave

As the websites are breaking brave so badly that I have to give it the three finger salute, how do I adjust site-specific shields without loading the page, or is there a way?

Also, I’m using connect.raspberrypi.com on Windows Brave - the help I found was RasPi specific and not helpful to the situation.

Use as a template:

brave://settings/content/siteDetails?site=https%3A%2F%2Fsupport.brave.com

Replace the support.brave.com portion with your website-of-interest domain name and/or host name.

  • Domain name example: brave.com
  • Hostname example: support.brave.com

So, in a Brave Browser New Window, go to:

brave://settings/content/siteDetails?site=https%3A%2F%2Fsupport.brave.com

Scroll down the page, and adjust settings as you wish. Most of the time, you will want to ALLOW: JavaScript ← set that manually.

It appears that it was an extension causing it.

Everything is fine now
