When playing videos on certain websites, the video mutes and pauses when you move into a second tab.
You can reproduce this by going to say “Weather.com” Play a video and leave it run, open a second tab and you will see that it mutes and pauses when in a diffrent tab. Other websites like Youtube keeps playing the video.
The video should stay playing in the background.

This issue actually appears to be specific to weather.com and it’s hard to tell whether or not its intentional. Playback resumes on the site instantly when I re-select the tab and also transitions smoothly — if it’s a bug it’s kind of a nice one.
Are you able to reproduce this on other sites like Youtube?
Just weather.com as far as I know. There was other sites, but cant remember which ones at the current moment. Even though just 1 site, I would like a fix.

Yeah so this looks to be an intentional function of the video player they’re using (JWP). I’m seeing the same behavior across Chrome, Firefox, Opera and Brave.
Try adding this, weather.com##+js(brave-disable-pageview-api) into brave://adblock
Instagram is the same way, it’s a site specific thing, not a browser issue. Very annoying though, for sure.
@Dan33185 want to try what fanboynz mentioned just prior to your reply? Obviously you’d have to type in instagram or whichever site in place of where it said weather, but otherwise should kind of work similarly I do believe. I’m at least curious to see if it resolves it for you.

This worked for me, video continued to play.
I’ve rolled out a fix into shields. So just keeping Ads&Trackers shields enabled on weather.com, will let video keep playing.
