Using the Yandex search engine in Brava is not possible

Hello everyone!

Windows 10 Pro 22H2 and Android 15

The latest Brave is installed on the computer and on the Android smartphone. Version: 1.78.102 Chromium: 136.0.7103.113 (Official build) (64 bit).

A couple of days ago, the ability to enter data in the query field of the Yandex start page disappeared - the cursor is missing. Also, after switching from the start page to other pages, they load for a second and disappear - they are not displayed. This problem is the same and is observed on both my devices, PC and Android. Reinstallation did not help. Virus scan did not show anything. In a virtual machine, I deployed a clean Win10 distribution and installed the latest Brave there - the problem is the same and is completely reproducible. In other browsers, everything works correctly. If you change the search engine and start page in Brave to Google, everything also works.
What’s next? Is it Brave or Yandex? Any thoughts?

UPDATE 20.05.2025 (video screen)

The video shows:

  1. The browser opens
  2. When trying to place the cursor in the search field to enter text, it is impossible to do so, it is completely inactive
  3. If you quickly refresh the page, for a second the ability to place the cursor in the search field appears and service icons appear, but then they disappear
  4. At the same time, the address bar is available for editing and only through it can you enter search queries
  5. When opening links on the main page, new pages open in a new window and disappear almost immediately
  6. Third-party search services, such as Google, work correctly, including input fields for searching and opening links

P.S.
The same thing happens on my Android smartphone.

UPDATE 21.05.2025 (Yandex support response)

Support Yandex recommended disabling Brave Security and this solves the problem, but disabling it leads to collecting data that I do not want to transmit. One problem is solved by creating another ((.

FWIW, it works OK for me on desktop.

Not seeing any issues on my end with Yandex on Windows or Android. Works regardless of my default search engine. Can you share the exact steps you take to reproduce the issue you’re seeing?

Hi!

Thank you for your attention!

Hello!

Thank you for your attention! Check out my update.

Yeah still not seeing this behavior – seems to be working fine for me:

Can you please try installing the Beta build of the browser and testing the same site/behavior there and see if you get the same results?

Hello!

In the beta version, everything is the same (.
I received a response from Yandex support. Their recommendation solves the problem, but does not suit me as a user. I am used to and want to avoid unnecessary digital traces and advertising. Perhaps the Brave team will help solve this issue with the reaction to the blocking (see my update).

I’ll have a updated fix in the next few hours, thanks for the report

Hello!

I waited for the next update on the Desktop version Release Notes v1.79.118 (May 29, 2025).

Nothing has changed in my situation ((.
Temporarily switched to another search engine mail.ru where everything works correctly.
Tell me, should I expect changes or fixes from Brave in conjunction with Yandex?

Tips regarding Brave Shields:

I have more success, with:

  • Brave Shields UP
  • Either Allow All Cookies or Block 3rd Party Cookies, but NOT Blocking All Cookies
  • Allowing JavaScripts from specific sources, but NOT Allowing All JavaScripts
  • Trackers & Ads treatment: Aggressive (at first), and then incrementally relaxing that setting
  • Fingerprinting (aka footprinting) blocking: Strict (at first), and then incrementally relaxing that setting

I almost NEVER use:

  • All of Brave Shields UP
  • All of Brave Shields DOWN

Shields Basics

How do I configure global and site-specific Shields settings?

How do I use Shields while browsing?

Hello!
Thank you for your participation and advice.

The problem does not lie in the plane of my settings, which have not let me down for a very long time, both on Desktop and Android.
I do not want to refuse the familiar settings because they are optimal for me. Considering the problem with a specific search engine, it is possible that the matter is in the scripts used by the search engine, so I temporarily abandoned it in favor of another. I hope the situation will be resolved with updates.
