Urgent pls help! (dashboard not loading properly)

NTP = New Tab Page. The page that is displayed when you create a new tab.

NOTE, unrelated to your issue
If you have Sponsored Images (SI) activated, you will see New Tab Page (NTP) ads, assuming you have it set to Dashboard and not a particular website. So if you see people talk of NTP ads, you’ll now know what they are referencing.

@Saoiray; @SmartyAadi - any progress or suggestions? I can’t use Brave like this and hate to switch browsers again if there’s hope for a solution. Pls advise. And thanks.

@ngenana Unfortunately, SmartyAadi and I will be limited in any type of assistance. I was working on information so when @Mattches and other support came, they could try to help. I do see Mattches has been a little silent since his last question so to @HELPMEPLS1, perhaps partially because his questions were never answered.

So @HELPMEPLS1 should be replying with:

  • Have you changed all your settings (DNS, etc) back to their defaults?

  • It is only the NTP page that is not appearing?

  • Visiting other websites works just fine without any issue? (you answered earlier, but guess he’s just verifying)

  • And when you created a new browser profile, you still see this same issue? (Yes, you already said it earlier, but again I think it’s just him seeking confirmation and maybe asking you to test once more)


Then I think I’m also going to ask. If you installed Brave Nightly, do you have the same issue?


Beyond that, also going to remind the two of you that you can also submit a Browser Support Ticket just in case you’d like to see if perhaps better response times there.

In the meanwhile, I’m going to tag three other Users who often have some excellent suggestions or solutions on things. @CerealLover @JimB1 @chh_68 would any of you happen to have any ideas for these two who seem to be experiencing the issue? If you could, try to look back on info they provided, especially on OP’s originally post.

Are you using Secure DNS at all?

Is anything set in brave://flags ? (Anything with a non-default setting will be sorted to the top, and will have a blue dot next to it.)

@Saoiray I did reply to @Mattches 's post. If you did not see it then here it is:
I don’t know what you mean by “NTP”(google search shows “Network Time Protocol”). Visiting other websites does work fine. So its just the dashboard problem. After doing all the troubleshooting I did change all the settings back to their original options/values.

Though I will answer the question you have posted:

    • Yes I have. After all the troubleshooting, I changed their options/values back to their defaults.

    • Yes. Visiting sites I normally visit like youtube, google docs, gmail, etc does work
  • Visiting other websites works just fine without any issue? (you answered earlier, but guess he’s just verifying)
    • Well yes. I don’t really see any issue on sites I visit
  • And when you created a new browser profile, you still see this same issue? (Yes, you already said it earlier, but again I think it’s just him seeking confirmation and maybe asking you to test once more)
    • As I stated on my original troubleshooting posts, I created another profile. but it did not solve the issue

I don’t think I installed “Brave Nightly”.

@JimB1 - Flags worked for me. I had disabled Brave News; set to default and bug is fixed. Now NTP brings up dashboard. BTW, I use Secure DNS and it had not impact. You’re the man! Thanks a lot.

@Saoiray, thanks so much for taking the initiative and all your help. I haven’t been using Brave that long, but like it so far. Find the dashboard slow and thought all the news cards were contributing so experimented. Since I had uninstalled, rebooted and reinstalled, I would have thought everything went back to default. Then again, maybe it was a “senior” moment for me (ugh). Anyway, thanks a lot!

SO WHAT I DID WAS I ENABLED BRAVE NEWS IN “brave://flags” BECAUSE I DISABLED IT. I REENABLED IT AND THE DASHBOARD IS NOW BACK!!!

@Saoiray You should bring this up through people with “Browser Support” badge(if thats what they call it). Because it was “Brave News” that was messing with the NTP loading. Though I think it was my fault because I disabled it even though it said at the top of the page that it was experimental. Thank you though for helping me!

@HELPMEPLS1 yep, I’m just glad @JimB1 asked and it resolved for both of you. There’s always a lot of moving parts and it can take a lot of time and guesswork to get to it.
