Uphold supports South Africa. Account was verified with local ID and accepted by Uphold. Initial wallet connect into Brave rewards went fine and all existing rewards transferred to my Uphold wallet. Then brave logged my Uphold connection out and when I try to log in I get the following:

Fortunately I already had some BAT in the account which allowed me to use as withdrawal…

So only way to resolve this is to add funds to Uphold…
Sounds more and more like a scam each day…you have to deposit before you can withdraw.
depends, if your BAT is already migrated you can use that as funds. You’re not making a transaction, you’re previewing it to do the final validation.
i simply considered “buying” bitcoin (or should I say minisat) with some of my BAT, previewed the transaction, took the photo and cancelled. Thus far my Uphold wallet has remained connected to Brave.

If you have no funds on Uphold then the only way to resolve the issue is to add funds. Not all bank cards work with Uphold so in some instances you will have to do a wire transfer which easily cost up to $50 depending on your country. My total rewards is only worth like $40 odd plus Uphold will most probably take some of that as well when it is moved over so all in all just not worth it. Brave is more a headache than anything else and just no longer worth the effort and trouble.
