Updating extensions stalls

**Description of the issue: Updating extensions gets stuck at “Updating…”

**How can this issue be reproduced? Go to “Extensions” page, click on “Developer Mode” and click “Update”, the status bar on the bottom left stalls as “Updating” forever.

**Expected result: Extensions should update within 10-15 seconds.
