Description of the issue:
Linux here. I had to restore/upgrade my system, which eliminated the older version of brave, which was installed with apt-get or directly downloaded, probably due to the browser telling me to do so. It has been installed for years. I do not remember the version.
After the system upgrade, this time I could only install brave as a “snap”.
My old configuration is at ~/.config/BraveSoftware/BraveBrowser. I have noticed that this new version of brave has created ~/.config/brave. Apparently, no automatic import was attempted.
I have read:
However, this procedure does not (or no longer) works. I only get the “Import bookmarks and settings” pop-up which only has one selection to specify a bookmarks HTML file. There are no windows that are pictured in that article that allow you to import from Brave(old) or any other browser for that matter. I do notice the following message every time I select “Bookmarks > Import bookmarks and settings…”
[12576:12576:1105/182352.826631:ERROR:CONSOLE(1806)] "[Brave Settings Overrides] Appearance Page cannot find use default theme button template", source: chrome://settings/settings.js (1806)
I am pretty sure that I can get my extensions back (never use more than one or two anyway), but would like my stuff back. Would using the sync do it? I have another laptop that I theoretically sync with, but although the laptop is on, I have not touched that one in months. Not sure if the sync automatically updates a browser that is not actively being used.
