Update Brave notification button not happening anymore

Hey Support, @Mattches and @Saoiray and whoever else :slightly_smiling_face:

Description of the issue:

I have another issue that’s been happening for awhile now, the issue is whenever there is a new update for Brave, I’m NOT getting the “UPDATE” ‘notification’ that would normally appear beside the hamburger/sandwich menu at the top right of Brave (beside where the extensions and other Brave default buttons are) when of course there IS an update, to conveniently prompt me to update.

My PERSONAL temporary ‘solution’ is to just always have a PINNED TAB open to brave://settings/help and created a reminder to check every Wednesday or Thursday, but it would be nice if I didn’t HAVE TO do that and just got the “UPDATE” ‘notification’ as I was used to when I first started using Brave.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. A New Official Build Update is available for Brave
  2. No Notification
  3. … that’s kinda it really :man_shrugging:

Expected result:
Obviously when an official build update for Brave is available the notification in the top bar by the hamburger/sandwich menu and extensions/default brave shortcuts shows up.

Brave Version( check About Brave):
macOS 15.0.1 Sequoia: Version 1.71.118 Chromium: 130.0.6723.70 (Official Build) (arm64)

Windows 11 Home 23H2: Version 1.71.118 Chromium: 130.0.6723.70 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Additional Information:
Also, I’m not 100% SURE if it’s happening on my Windows PC but it definitely is happening on my MacBook, I use my MacBook daily, Windows PC more rarely. (and I don’t have a Linux computer)

Also seen previously here if it means anything:

Why don't I have the orange UPDATE button when there is an update? (Jan 2022)

Is Brave patched for CVE-2023-7024? - #7 by User.1.000.000.000 (Dec 2023) - slightly off topic for thread but somewhat related in post.

No update button like in Chrome (March 2023)

@User.1.000.000.000, from what I remember, that notice was mostly seen on Mac. I don’t think it typically appeared on Windows.

In general, you don’t need to take any action for the browser to update. Brave updates automatically while you use it or when you close the browser. If you want to check manually, you can go to About Brave, but that’s mainly to speed up the process.

Right, I don’t always close my browser as I have multiple windows and tabs in multiple spaces (and of course have to reorganize them each update anyway)… So I guess that’s just not going to come back then for convenience sake huh @Saoiray ?

@User.1.000.000.000,
You should be seeing the Update button on macOS when an update is available and the browser is open. There are times for me where it doesn’t appear right away for me (I’m not entirely sure what triggers this) but it will eventually appear. If you’re not seeing this notification I’d wager there may be an extension you have installed that is conflicting with the prompt.

I’ll create a separate empty profile and leave that open with no extensions and wait for an update (typically weekly on Tues/Wed/Thurs from what I’ve seen)… If I do that and still use my Main Profile (keeping that one open as I usually do), that wouldn’t effect it (in the second profile) would it @Mattches ?

and just for my own record for future reference the current build is:
Version 1.71.118 Chromium: 130.0.6723.70 (Official Build)

As I tried with above comment, keeping/still using my Main Default Profile open but also creating a New Profile to see if it helps the situation, as in the “Update” button appear in the New Profile
(as I wasn’t sure from what I read previously in other posts the Main Default Profile might still interfere if kept open?)
Anyway, new update… no “Update” notification button…
I’ll leave it a bit longer before restarting if I can but… let me know @Mattches if you could please :man_shrugging:

@User.1.000.000.000,
Well the icon does not appear until the update has been available for 2 days — so you just not waiting long enough.
