Unable to turn off search engine suggestions in address bar

How can this issue be reproduced?

1. Set ‘Show autocomplete suggestions in address bar’ setting to enable only ‘Bookmarks’
2. Open a new tab
3. Start typing a few letters in the address bar
4. See suggestions in dropdown

Expected result:

• Only bookmark results should be seen in the suggestions dropdown
• In the screenshot attached, only ‘amazon japan’ and ‘amazon india’ should’ve appeared since they’re bookmarked but the text search suggestions of ‘amazon prime’ and ‘amazon customer service’ are also appearing.

Brave Version( check About Brave): 1.77.83 (MacOS)

• I’ve also tried changing search engines to Google, Brave Search and DuckDuckGo - all have similar text search results show up.

I also don’t see ‘search engine > show search suggestions’ that others have mentioned in threads like this in forums here.

As of March 21/22, 2025, the latest Brave Browser stable release version:

You must be using:

Beta v1.77.83 (Chromium 134.0.6998.95)

Latest Brave Browser Beta version:

Beta v1.77.86 (Chromium 134.0.6998.118)

Try updating.
