After the recent update to the browser I am unable to mute certain tabs. If I open a new window from a twitch tab that’s already open the new window doesn’t mute unless I mute the original tab. Closing the browser didn’t help. Can this please get fixed?
Same behaviour for youtube, so would be willing to bet it’s the same for all websites.
Can’t reproduce this on Windows 10 or macOS — tested this on both Twitch and Youtube.
Are you both on Win11 by chance? Any extensions installed?
Windows 10
Extensions installed are 7TV, Dark Reader, Google Translate, Reddit Enhancement Suite and ublock Origin.
Imagining we’re probably running the same version, but for the sake of clarity - v1.63.162
Edit - Just tested in Manjaro Linux, worked fine as expected with the same extensions mentioned above - Though that is with brave through an unofficial channel (AUR)
Windows 10
Extensions are google translate, dark reader, reddit enhancement suite, ublock origin and 7TV
browser version 1.63.162
Tested as working as expected on Manjaro Linux, same extensions and version as above, but through an unofficial channel (AUR, no official channel for Arch based versions of Linux)
I’m using Windows 10. It happens specifically on Twitch for me, however I’m pretty sure it applies universally. It only allows me to mute 1 tab from Twitch and unless I mute the original tab the other tabs sound plays, which it then mutes the other tabs open if I have the original muted. It basically mutes the site instead of the individual tab.
I just encountered this issue as well.
If you right-click a tab, you see two options: Mute tab and mute site. The Mute tab option behaves exactly like mute site now - if you select it on the tab with the icon, it mutes every tab from a site, rather than the one tab that you actually wanted to mute. If you select it on a tab that doesn’t have the icon, it does nothing, but changes the option to “unmute tab” anyway, despite having not muted a thing.
This happens on a fresh, clean profile with no extensions whatsoever. I am running Version 1.63.162 Chromium: 122.0.6261.69 (Official Build) (64-bit)
It was not like this just a few days ago. Just noticed it today.
Steps to reproduce:
- Create a new profile
- Go to twitch.tv and open several tabs from random recommended streamers
- You’ll notice that only one of the tabs has the audio icon
- Right-click one of the tabs that does not have the icon
- Select “mute tab” - Audio will continue, despite the menu item saying “unmute tab” now
- Select “unmute tab” to reset it back to baseline
- Right-click on the tab that has the icon
- Select “mute tab” on that tab - all audio from all twitch tabs will go silent
I don’t remember the settings option “Disable mute function in tab speaker icons” being there for very long. Is it possible that adding that option caused a regression?
Interestingly, it’s now working as expected this morning - Only thing I’ve done is turn my computer off last night and back on this morning.
Having the same issue since last night. Looks like it’s also present on Chrome according to this Reddit thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/chrome/comments/1ax78qw/per_site_audio_playing_from_one_tab/
Very annoying
I’ve opened this issue to ensure our devs are aware of the issue:
Thank you for this work around as they diagnose and fix this problem. Apparently the issue has to do with Brave utilizing the chrome engine from what I’m gathering. The only downside to this plugin is when you click back on the tab the audio plays again (privacy aside). However at least it’s something until the patch is applied.
I don’t use extensions and am on MacOs with the most up to date Brave. Muting the site instead of the tab is a great way to describe it.
Is there an update to progress of this issue being resolved?
Edit: Update: It appears to have been resolved in Browser version 1.63.169. I was unaware at the time in my original post due to using a third party extension to mute tabs, and notification on the update.
@AnimaterCreator,
Thank you for confirming that the issue was resolved — can anyone else here please confirm that the issue was fixed after updating to v1.63.169?
Thank you
Still not resolved for me on version 1.63.169
NOPE. Still Not resolved! Don’t even try to throw the support team off with that one.
@Mattches The issue is NOT fixed. Do not downgrade or reshuffle this longstanding issue in the deck. Still waiting.
I watch tennis every day & it’s still VERY much an issue. Any stream with the same type of website origin is grouped together as one despite being different tabs. I’ve already provided links where you can test this out. I swear, it’s like y’all don’t even use Brave.
I’m not one of these people who downloads countless extensions & other nonsense only to wonder why things are constantly going wrong with their browser. My browser is up to date, but the issue is sill not fixed.
@NotAgain have you forgotten that you have your own topic at Issue with Audio Linking Across Multiple Tabs. Unable to Independently Mute Tabs ?
Big thing to point out here is OP on this is using Windows. You are using MacOS. They are sharing it was resolved for them on Windows. Two separate but similar issues.
All you have to do is bump yours to say it’s still a problem on your MacOS after the latest updated. In fact, I’m actually going to lock this topic since it seems resolved and we’ll shift activity to yours.
@Mattches closing this because OP seems to say it’s resolved and there are other open topics. Figured it’s better to keep it going on open topic with existing issue rather than keep having people pinged who said the problem is resolved.
