Unable to connect to any ipfs sites on both macs

I am able to connect to ipfs using opera on both of my macs (big sur and mojave) yet so far no combination of brave settings have allowed me to do so using brave.

i have opened various ipfs addresses, including my own domains in opera and tried copy pasting into brave address bar yet always get

I am assuming a blush worthy school boy error yet am eager to have my mistakes pointed out.
