Description of the issue:
(1) - when trying to connect to Ethermail, Brave wallet connects but does not respond to the further steps (e.g., signatures, Thor Protocol)
(2) - when trying to connect Brave Wallet to Ethermail and other apps, I get popups of Metamask and Phantom wallets trying to barge in. and no option to connect to Brave wallet appears.
Have uninstalled Brave and reinstalled from the website, not Github, multiple Windows restarts, cleared lots of cookies and history, etc.

Additional Information:

Hello! This might be related to your default wallet settings. You can configure it at brave://settings/web3

Please let me know if I can provide any further guidance. Thanks!

No. I have web3 set to Brave Wallet as default. I’ve tried Inactivating Metamask and Phantom too. Does not work.

It looks like Ethermail does not recognize Brave Wallet and the issue is potentially on their end.
Option 'popupType' is ignored since a slot which act as a custom login button was not found!!!

What other dApps are you experiencing this issue on? Would you mind providing some examples? Thanks!

Oh and I did the advanced option for blowing out history, cookies, sessions, etc. reset the computer. resetting Brave Wallet does not appear to work. I checked the brave://components page yesterday and today and there are components that were not updating on their own (I tried and restarted the browser, but no change in behavior). many of the NFTs are now showing as watch-only (Webacy, UD nfts).

Ethermail - Metamask/Phantom pop up immediately. No options on the page now for Brave at all, I’m not even getting to the Thor Protocol stage. the wallet says I’m connected but nothing happens.

Dappradar - Metamask/Phantom pop up immediately. but I can log into the dapp with Brave Wallet.

Wirexpay - connects to Brave wallet easily. no popups from metamask/phantom.

I asked Ethermail that yesterday, here’s what they said:

Thank you for reaching out.

It sounds like you’re facing a wallet detection issue at the Thor Protocol authentication stage. Unfortunately, the Brave Wallet sometimes isn’t recognized correctly if other wallet extensions like MetaMask or Phantom were previously installed, even if they’re now disabled.

Here are a few suggestions to help:

  1. Fully remove MetaMask and Phantom extensions – Not just disable them, but uninstall them completely and restart your browser.

  2. Clear browser cache – This helps ensure stale wallet session data doesn’t interfere with authentication.

  3. Update Brave – Ensure you’re on the latest version of the Brave browser.

  4. Try Incognito Mode with only Brave Wallet enabled – This can help isolate the Brave Wallet for proper detection.

If the issue still persists after this, we recommend trying to access your account from another browser temporarily (such as Chrome with only Brave Wallet installed), or wait for upcoming support updates that improve multi-wallet handling.

We know this can be frustrating and truly appreciate your patience. Please let us know if the problem continues — we’re here to help.

EtherMail Customer Support

The Brave component issue is unrelated and can be tracked and resolved with this link below.

This is what EtherMail wrote to me when I inquired. They acknowledge the issue is on their end and suggest using an alternative wallet at this time.

Thanks for reaching out! It seems Brave Wallet might not be initializing properly because it’s expecting a custom login button that isn't currently available on our end.

Yikes I will try the Github brave-as-administrator thing. I have had Ethermail start working again this week (Monday) for some reason. Today the browser was all updated on its own. I did the Microsoft updates before I started it.

as long as I keep only brave wallet enabled, it mostly works. still having problems with any other wallets.

If you have trouble being prompted for other wallets when connecting dApps, you’ll need to change your default wallet settings to Extensions so the extension-based wallets are prioritized.
