Trending Searches for Google keeps getting turned on

Description:
Trending Searches for Google keeps getting turned on when Brave is closed.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Open Google search Home page (https://www.google.co.uk/)
  2. Click “Settings” (on bottom of page) / Search Settings /
    Other settings /
    Turn OFF “Auto complete with trending searches”.
  3. Trending searches now not showing as expected.
  4. Close Brave, then re-open into Google search.
  5. Trending searches are now back ON & the toggle is also back ON to show trending searches.

Expected result:
Turning off “Show trending searches” should keep them off even after closing Brave.

Brave Version:
1.66.115 (Chromium 125.0.6422.112)

Mobile Device details
Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 (android 10)
Google Pixel 6 (android 14).

Additional Information:
I have Shields ON normally for Google (Google account IS signed in), but the issue persists whether I’ve disabled Trending searches toggle with or without Brave Shields enabled.
This problem occurs on both my android 10 tablet as well as on my android 14 phone for Brave browser (fully updated).
The issue is not evident when using other browsers - Chrome, Firefox, Opera or Amaze browsers. All keep the setting disabled after closing & reopening them, so I’m assuming is not caused by Google itself.

Same issue has been occuting to me for the past week or so when using Chrome. It might be a chromium bug.

Thanks for getting back regarding Chrome.

I’d tested Chrome yesterday and was sure it was working as expected after closing & reopening that browser (no Trending searches after disabling them). However, I just checked again after seeing your comment, … and Trending searches are back on!! Looks like youre right and Chromium is to blame after all.
