Need support for page translation in brave browser. Sure there are extension for that but they don’t work seamlessly on sites. Do we have some alternative for this?
Nope. None of the non-Google browsers are able to perform built-in Google Translate, as Google charges fees for using their Translate service.
Firefox however, has managed to develop built-in translation capability using an offline ML model, which does not rely on Google Translate. It’s currently in Firefox Nightly.
I don’t expect this offline translate model to ever appear in Brave though, because
- Brave is notoriously complacent about adding new browser features unrelated to crypto or privacy
- Google Chromium has no incentive to add offline translation to bypass their paywalled Google Translate service, nor to drive adoption of Chromium browsers that are not Google-affiliated
