I just upgraded my OS, and I copied the Brave folder from the snap folder, which I thought was it. Everything is gone! The best thing about Firefox, is that it has the ability to copy the folder and import it into any OS. The folder contained profiles, settings, extensions, etc.
Why doesn’t the developers of Brave want you to backup your data? There is no backup tool, the only thing is the weird sync thing, which is hit or miss. Is it because they want to be as secure as possible, and if backing up your data, might get you exposed?
Negative, depending on what you said you copied. The folder you need to copy/paste is the \brave-browser folder or the User Data folder that is located inside it. Perhaps this is what you’re referencing but since terminology was a bit off, wanting to try to make sure you’re looking at the right location. To really verify which folder contains your profile and all, you can visit brave://version and check what it lists for your Profile Path.
This will contain your bookmarks and all, but it won’t help you with passwords necessarily. The reason being the encryption used relies on your OS keychain and therefore moving to a new device or anything of the sort would lose the encryption key and be unable to view passwords.
