Description of the issue: The Search engine for private window keeps switching automatically to brave.
How can this issue be reproduced?
Select any other search engine than brave for private window → close brave → remove it from recent apps → long press on Brave icon to see ‘Open Private tab’ option → click on open private tab → search for anything → the Search will be made via Brave search even though for this, I’ve selected Google search
Expected result: The Search happens through the selected engine rather than brave search
Brave Version( check About Brave):
Brave 1.63.165, Chromium 122.0.6261.94
Mobile Device details
Xiaomi 11 lite Ne 5G running MIUI 14.0.8 (based on Android 13) Additional Information:
None. I’ve been having this issue since a few weeks and I think it was after some update as this didn’t happen earlier.
A screen recording of the same is being shared below, even though I am unable to share the recording of what exactly happens in private window (since the OS blacks it out), you can see how the Search engine toggles itself to Brave search even tough on the previous page it still says Google.
@SmartyAadi,
Can you please update to v1.63.169 and check to see if the issue persists?
On my end, I cannot reproduce this issue. I’m wondering if it might be an issue specific to Xiaomi devices. Please let me know if the issue persists after the update so I can discuss the issue with Android team.
Unfortunately no luck, @Mattches. The issue continues onto the new version too.
I don’t have any device other than my Xiaomi one, will try it with a friend and update.
It does seem to be happening on my friend’s Poco X3 Pro as well, running MIUI 14.0.2 based on Android 13
I also had a problem, when using the privacy tab for a long time (I think maybe an hour or more than that. And several times the smartphone screen turned on and off), and i created a new privacy tab, it went into brave search, not to the user’s default search. It’s on all channels, stable, Beta and nightly
Thanks for sharing this. @Mattches please take note of this too. @MikoNyan could you share details of your device? Like the Make & model, Software version as well as the version of Brave? Thanks!
@mattches an update. I tried this on Samsung A34 5G running OneUI 6.0 based on Android 14. The issue persists so this does make me think that this is an issue going on all androids (not yet tried on iOS).
@MikoNyan could you check if the issue persists? Mine seems fixed for now. I haven’t changed anything tho so not sure what was causing this.
I did clear cache in the morning, so you can try that too update here. Thanks!
