Tar.gz downloaded from github isn't updating

I’ve downloaded brave-beta tar.gz via github, however when I click on “About” it doesn’t check if it’s up-to-date or even allow me to manually check.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Download Brave Beta from github with tar.gz
  2. Wait for update to become available
  3. Check “About”

Expected result:
Brave should either automatically check if brave-beta is the latest on load, or at least allow me to check it manually without downloading a new tar.gz every single update.

Brave Version( check About Brave):
Version 1.24.76 Chromium: 90.0.4430.85 (Official Build) unknown (64-bit)

Additional Information:
Running Manjaro XFCE on 5.10.34

This means that if you install manually from a .tar.gz, you will never get updates, just like if you were building from source.

On Manjaro, the only installation method we recommend is to this one:
