Tabs Automatically Closing When Switching Back to Brave

Description of the issue:
When I use the browser to navigate and open one or more tabs, then switch to another app, all the tabs close automatically when I return to Brave.
I’m attaching a screenshot of how the app appears when I switch back to it from another app. The tabs close automatically. Additionally, I have disabled any system-level app management that might close the app when it’s not in use for a certain period of time. This doesn’t happen all the time.
I have a Xiaomi 13.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Open and browse using the Brave browser.
  2. Minimize Brave and switch to another app, keeping Brave running in the background.
  3. Return to Brave after some time.

Actual Result:
The open tabs and websites do not stay active and close automatically, so I have to manually return to the website I was previously on. This doesn’t happen all the time.

Expected result:
I expect to find the web pages I had open still active when I suspended the app and switched to another one.

Xiaomi HyperOS 2.0.2.0
Android 15 AQ3A.240912.001
Brave 1.77.100

Additional Information:
This doesn’t happen all the time, and it’s quite annoying and frustrating.

I just checked, and I don’t have Sync enabled.

Same issue happening for me on Poco X7 Pro, running:

Hyper Os 2.0.101.0 (Android 15 AQ3A.240905.015.A2)
Brave 1.77.100

Seems to happen if I haven’t used Brave for around 5 minutes then open it again, the opened tabs will be cleared

Can you both please check and ensure that the Close tabs on exit function is toggled “off” in Settings --> Brave Shields & Privacy (down towards the button, under Other privacy settings)?

It’disabled. Close tabs on exit function is off in Settings → Brave Shields & Privacy.

Mine is disabled and the issue still occurs.

Same issue here. Any news on this? It’s suuuper annoying.

I observed for me this issue appeared after the second last Brave update and only the latest tab gets closed when switching apps and returning to Brave. All other ones remain open so far.

I noticed this on websites where you can open links in the same tab (eg. infinite scrolling photo sites). If I open another app and switch back to Brave, I can’t open any new links and need to refresh the page, as if the page/tab freezes after I switch to another app.

Same here. Close all tabs on exit is off and app is updated. Running on an arm64 Android with good amount of RAM. This isn’t new for me, it has always happened since forever and is super annoying. I try to always keep one tab open with clocktab.com, that seems to help a bit but not always. Could this be a behavior related to the Linux OOM killer? I notice that when I play 4K videos it’s guaranteed that Brave will close my tabs when I switch back to it.
