Sync with 2 operating systems on one desktop

Description of the issue:
I boot my ACER Desktop into either Windows 10 or Linux Mint Cinnamon. I have installed Brave browser 1.73.97 on both the Windows and Linux systems. I also have an Android phone with Brave 1.73.97.

Whether I am in Windows or Linux, the device name shows up the same when I Sync between the Android phone and desktop. I can understand that it is not possible to Sync with Linux and Windows devices, since only one of the two would ever be operating at any given time - depending upon which OS I booted into.

The issue is that I want to get my Bookmarks and Settings from the Windows into the Linux, and keep them the same. When I Sync between Windows and the phone, things work. But when I go to Sync from the phone to the Linux install, there is a device there already with the desktop’s name.

Is it possible to get a different device name into the Sync routine e.g. ACER Desktop-Windows and ACER Desktop-Linux.

I also suspect that I should not bother trying to Sync the settings configuration, just the bookmarks… since some aspects of configuration like font or appearance might be different for the two desktop systems and the phone.

Perhaps I should just export the bookmarks from the Windows install where they exist and import them into the Linux install and forget about trying to keep the Settings in Sync?

Brave Version( check About Brave):
1.73.97 / 131.0.6778.108 on all three devices

Additional Information:

I think to make things easiest, I would just export your bookmarks and import them. However I am curious, you did setup Sync on the Linux partition as well right? So when you view your Sync chain, you see two entires for the same desktop device, is that correct?

Hi Mattches:
I did try to set up Sync on the Linux partition. But, when I saw the same device name coming up again [it was already there from the Windows, which is where I first had Brave running] I got concerned that I wouldn’t be able to keep them separate, and thought that might lead to system confusion also in the Sync process.

I deleted all Sync devices and tried again. This time I had slightly different names [the Windows name came up a bit different; the LInux was the same.] At that point, I could have lived with just making a note and remembering which name was the /windows and which the Linux evice… but, I had researched and learned how to change the Linux host name. [I suppose I could have tried to change the Windows name, but I learned how to change Linux first…]

So, I used sudo… to change the Linux host name, and had to also change it in /esc/hosts file. Now I have more distinct device names, including “Linux” added to the Linux install, and Sync is working well… the phone is the “middleman” in the Sync chain, since the two desktop partitions are never active at the same time. Not a bad compromise for me, since I am only Syncing bookmarks at this time… I don’t use the Brave password function, since I use a separate app [Bitwarden] for password management.

If I had not been able to get the names resolved to my satisfaction, I was going to go with the export / import process and just remember to run it periodically. But this way, I have the advantage of bookmarks up to date across all three installs.

Thanks for your prompt reply to my first message - much appreciated!
