Sync succeeded, then failed and is now causing crashing

I had successfully (both computers were showing up on each others sync page, although I never actually saw any of the bookmark data transfer) set up sync, but then one of the browsers crashed and now both computers’ sync pages are back to “Sync Setup.” Any attempt to re-sync them ends in one of the browsers crashing or the “Confirm Sync Code” button not working. I have not successfully created a sync chain since.

I have tried restarting both computers and reinstalling the browsers on both computers but the issue persists.
