Sync doesn't copy browser settings

Description of the issue:
Brave Sync synchronizes everything except browser settings.

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3.
Configure Brave browser settings and new tab behavior on PC 1.
Create new Sync chain.
Add PC 2 to Sync chain with 25th word passphrase.
Ensure Sync everything is toggled ON on both PCs.
Close and reopen Brave on PC 2.

Reproduces how often:
Persistent

Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu):
v 1.75.181 on both

Type of devices currently running on the Sync chain in question:

  1. Windows PC (“PC 1”)
  2. Pixel 8 phone
  3. Windows Surface (“PC 2”)

Additional Information:
First-time installation and setup of Brave on all devices. Seems that everything except browser settings are syncing to second PC. Browser settings are all default on PC 2. I can see bookmarks, browsing history, and passwords synchronized properly. I visited brave://sync-internals/ and see that App Settings and Extension Settings are “running”, but Managed User Settings is not. Seems that maybe phone didn’t sync browser settings either, but that’s less clear/important.

I’m experiencing the exact same thing. I just jumped over to Brave from Chrome and none of the browser settings I customized on the first PC are syncing to any of the other devices I’ve been setting up (despite sync being configured to sync everything). When I look at brave://sync-internals/, I see the exact same thing as OP – Managed User settings is “Not Running”, but something called Preferences is running.

The main reason I took notice of this issue is my default Search Engine choice does not sync. I changed it from Brave to DuckDuckGo on my original device, and I’ve had to specifically go and change it on every single other device I’ve been setting up. This preference should definitely sync. Annoying!

Hello,

Not all the browser settings are synced when Settings toggle is turned on.
Only those which support sync. In code they are marked with SYNCABLE_PREF flag.

Out of my head - this was for the default search engine at least.

Plus some of them are impossible to sync between browsers on different platforms.

What settings would you like to see synced?

Well, I want Brave to be identical on my two PCs. Here’s what I expected to sync between browsers that did not:

New tab/“dashboard” configuration
Appearance preferences
Toolbar settings (show Rewards/Wallet/Sidebar/VPN buttons)
Content settings like default page zoom
Data collection settings
Leo settings
Extension settings
System settings

I will be manually configuring Brave to match on my other PCs, but this was a disappointing experience with Brave sync.
