Windows Pro 11 fully updated.
Last week I copied my sync code of the only computer I have using Brave. I store the sync code as a way to not lose all of my passwords or bookmarks in case of a computer catastrophic failure.
Last night, Windows 11 FORCED aggressively a cumulative update that nearly bricked my computer. Brave would not launch. Chrome would not launch.
Had to do a system restore and then reinstall Chrome and Brave. Chrome worked flawlessly in that all of my passwords and bookmarks were saved and restored.
However Brave DID NOT accept my sync code. Not because it was incorrect but because it was deprecated. DEPRECATED in one week. This is completely unacceptable to me. How is it that Brave expects anyone to keep their passwords and bookmarks?
I really appreciate the response. I followed the directions. I ended my current sync and said I wanted to start a new sync. I copied in my sync code while making sure to change the 25th word to “today’s 25th word”. Again, Brave gladly accepted my code but ONLY RESTORED what was on my Brave browser from the past 24 hours. It literally just restored like the 3 passwords from the last 24 hours. As far as I’m concerned this is a major flaw with Brave. I get it that some people will prefer this over the Google Chrome approach for safety reasons but there are also significant numbers of people who are happy enough with the Chrome approach and would like to use Brave for other reasons over Chrome. However, the sync code is kind of a joke.
@erikd something just ain’t sounding right in your explanation. The code is kind of like your master password to your data. That code changes daily, though it is only the 25th word that changes for now.
If you had your old code from before you had an issue and you went into any device and put in your code, making sure to change just the 25th word, then it would pull up everything that you had synced.
Maybe I’m misunderstanding something but the way that you’re phrasing it makes it sound like you created a brand new sync. If that’s the case then it would make sense that it would only have your most recent passwords because it’s a brand new that you created. You would have to make sure that you’re joining the prior one that was deprecated.
Can I just have you confirm that you are selecting the I have a sync code and then you’re putting in your prior code but making sure to change the 25th word?
Hey Saoiray. I hear you but I do want to confirm using your words:
“Can I just have you confirm that you are selecting the I have a sync code and then you’re putting in your prior code but making sure to change the 25th word?”
This is exactly, exactly what I did. After hitting “enter” there was a moment where I thought it looked like it was going to refresh my old data but when I went into passwords to check, only the most recent passwords from the last 24 hours were there.
So just to confirm the process was:
- Tell Brave I want to end my current sync and start a new sync
- I say I have the code
- I enter the code and change/enter the 25th word to “today’s 25th word”
- Press enter. No errors and the browser looks like it refreshes for a quick second.
- Check passwords and my old passwords, etc are not restored.
