Sync Chain does not recognize my new device

Description of the issue: I just got a new Mac Mini and transferred all of my data over from my Macbook using Migration Assistant. Brave was automatically installed and I was logged in without any setup, and all of my settings made it over too. However the Sync chain does not recognize my Mac Mini from any other devices. And on my Mac Mini my Macbook does not show up in the Sync chain either. It’s as if Brave thinks they are the same device. I tried re-installing brave and re-adding the device to the chain, but it did not help.

Brave Version: v1.78.97

@CLucas127 not sure I understand the issue? You migrated all your profile and all over, so it is “the same” as far as the browser and all is concerned. You’re not missing anything, right? And it’s still active?

Essentially, I am not able to send links from my Mac Mini to my Macbook or vice versa because neither device sees the other in the sync chain

@Mattches any thoughts?

Is your Macbook apart of the original Sync chain?

@Mattches It was in the sync chain first if that’s what you mean. Oddly, now even my phone sees only the Mac Mini, and not the MacBook. My phone definitely recognized my MacBook before I added the Mini into the mix

I see. Yeah it seems like transferring your data moved the device ID as well. So Sync essentially thinks that your Mac Mini is the same device as your Macbook.

To clarify, you tried removing your Macbook from the chain and re-adding it? That should do it, as it would register the Macbook as a new device (even though it’s technically not).

When I remove the Macbook my phone no longer sees the Mac Mini either. When I remove both and add the Mac Mini back, it doesn’t even see itself in the sync chain. Should I try to re-build the whole thing? And will I lose anything if I do?

@CLucas127 as long as everything is on your device(s) you shouldn’t lose anything as it’s all there. Then creating a new sync would have them aligned.

What I mean about the whole “as long as it’s on your device” is that anything on your sync chain that isn’t currently on any of your devices would potentially be lost as you’d be leaving/abandoning that sync. I’m assuming it should all be there for you though.

Of course, you can and perhaps should play it safe just in case by exporting passwords or bookmarks. It’s usually good to have something saved to an outside source as a backup just in case anything ever goes wrong. But shouldn’t be needed in this specific situation

I tried starting a new sync chain from the Macbook. When I add the Mac Mini it sees itself as the only device in the chain, and the Macbook still thinks it’s not in a chain, so it seems like Mattches is right that Brave thinks they have the same device ID

EDIT: I then tried adding the Macbook from the same code and now both devices see each other, so that seems to have resolved it! Thanks for all your assistance!
