Troubleshooting technical issues is much easier when both the user and support agent practice clear communication. For this reason, we have provided the template below for you to fill out with information about your issue. Please provide as much detail as possible so we can most efficiently resolve your problem.
Description of the issue:
The list of sites visited actually showed at least one site I visited in private mode. Not sure if it is a bug or feature of weekly report.
How can this issue be reproduced?
- Read this weeks privacy report and scroll down the list of sites visited, check totals against site visits.
- Disable weekly report
- Shred all brave data
Expected result:
no listing of sites visited in private mode
Brave Version( check About Brave
):
1.7 (99)
Mobile Device details
iPad Air 4
Additional Information:
iOS 18.4.1 (22E252)
Using Pure VPN 9.52.0
This week I actually read the weekly privacy report. (instert here title of post) I was surprised to see one of the sites I visited in private mode appear in the list of sites visited with a number beside it.
I suppose it would be normal in this case for me to post a screenshot of the issue, but that would defeat the visit in private mode purpose.
I wonder if users would react badly to find that the authorities could simply view the weeks privacy report to obtain a list of sites visited rather than the normal modes of attempted history gathering.
I was also using VPN at the time.
I have now cancelled the privacy report in Privacy Settings - Privacy Hub, so not sure if this is repeatable. Meanwhile I will avoid private browsing in Brave.
@Tarfoo I just tested on my iPhone and can’t replicate this. Though also have to say I’m using 1.78(103) which released yesterday. Not sure if updating resolves it. But none of the sites I visited in Private show up on the Privacy Hub numbers.
It may be that something is working differently in iPad, but can you make sure to double check? Can clear your privacy hub by going to Settings → Shields & Privacy → Privacy Hub → Clear Shields Data
From there it should show nothing except what tabs you have open. Then can go in Private and go to whatever websites you want. When you exit Private and then try to view Privacy Hub, nothing will be shown.
Though perhaps I’m missing myself a step as you talked about weekly report. So to clarify, did you ever check to see what it showed in the privacy hub or you seeing it elsewhere?
I appreciate your comments. My report only concerns the direct link from the weekly privacy report. No other issues found, though I was petty distracted by seeing the site in the list and didn’t do anything else other than disable the report and clear Brave data.
I was that surprised to see the private site data in the weekly report listings that I didn’t experiment with any other options than quickly disable the report.
Once I had disabled the weekly report. I cleared all Brave data and started surfing again.
Double checking after submitting the report I find brave has nothing stored that I can retrieve so far.
Next weeks privacy report? I may re-activate it and visit a random site in private mode just to see if it saves the visit. Otherwise unless I can verify the negative it’s be extra careful when doing my private site visits.

Let me tag in @Mattches to see if he can check it out. Will be nice to hear results if you do have it going again as well, just to confirm. It shouldn’t have anything touching from Private and isn’t showing when looking at the normal. So would be weird if there is some sort of crossover.
I will say, make sure site(s) tested are ones you wouldn’t be visiting on normal browsing just to be safe.
Yeah I think this is – and I say this in the nicest way possible – most likely just human error. Not that bugs of this nature are “impossible” but our team goes to great lengths on all platforms to ensure stuff like this doesn’t happen. I just tested on my end as well and cannot produce this behavior.
Maybe if you could reproduce the issue or if you were seeing more than just the one entry from one week it would be more concerning but I suspect you just accidentally entered the URL in a normal browsing dab that week.
That said, if you do see this happen again – especially if you can reproduce the issue consistently – please let us know as it would be something we’d like to investigate as soon as possible.
Nice to receive a diplomatic suggestion.
It was actually my first thought, second was VPN dropout. But, I make sure VPN active and Private mode selected as hopefully not mad enough to blindly enter addresses without some protection. Serious stuff using Kodachi odd bits of forum reading, private and VPN.
I have updated to (103) and re activated weekly report. Started private mode and visited three sites I have never been to before on any browser, VPN also active. Checked history, reassuringly blank. I will await next weekly report and then post any results.

Right new weekly report is in.
Nothing of note in the website visits data. Obviously operator error or an unexpected return of website data.
Update to newer version completed as expected.
This weeks private visits are not saved in any place I can find.
Thanks for your support.
