I Like Brave and I use it on MacOS, Linux, and Android. Lately I have been puzzled by the coolers of my Desktop (sensible Acer machine running Ubuntu Budgie) firing up unexpectedly. It appears that Brave was using up CPU resources. I closed Brave but in System Monitor I could still see a brave process keeping 67% of the CPU busy – it only went away after I killed it explicitly. Naturally I am worried – is there something else running behind or on behalf of Brave?
Was it a snap package or a normal .deb package?
It is quite unlikely that there will be CPU/RAM leakage as it is built on chromium, and as far as I know chromium does not leak CPU/RAM that much.
Still unistall and install .deb package and see if the same thing happens.
It keeps updating itself, on a weekly basis at an average, and sometimes even daily. In the meanwhile, I have installed something called midori, and if I don’t touch it the CPU usage os 0.0%, so it is possible.
Hello @IPNL
by default brave/chrome run in the background after you close it to change that go to brave://settings/system
and turn off this Continue running background apps when Brave is closed
for the high cpu usage
could you disable all extension and see if it work fine or not
if it work fine then renable extension one by one till you get the one cause thing the issue when you renable one of them give it long time to test maybe 3 hours or even whole day
brave did not update on that fast track
where did you install brave
using those 5 commands here
or using snap or what?
hope that help and have a nice day
Thank you very much for the help. I don’t have any extensions at all. Disabling the background apps worked. I am keeping a close watch on the behaviour, so far it is wasteful on memory (my opinion) but there is no CPU leak. The version is 1.47.188, and I believe the original installation was from the site shown above
you very welcome
to track which page take huge load on cpu or memory you can go to menu then more tools
then task manager
hope things get better and have a nice day
