Sporadic limits to resizing windows

Description of the issue:
Sporadically, I have Brave windows that seem to have a minimum size. When I make them smaller, there is a limit to how small I can make them.
The size of that minimum is not always the same. But it remains the same when I close and restart Brave (also after reboot).
Dragging a tab out of the window into another window or as a new window (with 1 tab) resolves the issue for that tab. I can resize the new window as I like, most of the time.
Other windows of Brave that are open simultaneously can typically be resized as I like.
I had one window with many youtube tabs. This window had this problem. I drag them all into a new window. That new window now also has a minimum size (as described) but that minimum is smaller than the previous window.
The zoom size does not make a difference.
This is happening since a few days. Never happened before. Now it seems to be a constant annoyance with Brave.

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3.
Since this is sporadic, I would not know how to reproduce the problem other than opening multiple tabs and trying to resize the windows.

Reproduces how often:
Very often since maybe a week. Never before.

Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu):
|Systemversion:|macOS 10.12.6 (16G2136)|
| Kernel-Version:|Darwin 16.7.0|

Brave Version 1.11.97 Chromium: 84.0.4147.89 (Offizieller Build) (64-Bit)

Same issue for me: since a few days, I can’t resize Brave window below 1142px wide. I tried to restart the computer (macOS 10.15.6, same Brave and Chromium version) but the problem still occurs.

I think I’ve just isolated the issue doing this:

  1. open a new window
  2. open a lot of new tabs: the more tabs you have, the less you can resize the window
  3. when you close some tabs, you’ll be able to make the window smaller by a few couple of pixels

So I think it’s linked to the number of open tabs you have.

Still buggy in Brave 1.11.101 Chromium: 84.0.4147.89.

@meduz @eyeq Is there any way you can share a short screen recording of the behavior as you see it on your end? I’m not entirely sure I understand exactly whats happening.

Hi @Mattches, sure:

  • screenshots of what I see + the size difference when doing macOS Mission Control gesture;
  • video of the Mission Control gesture;
  • below: video of the resizing 1) normal window 2) one tab window 3) back to normal window 4) private window with a lof of tabs and zero browser extensions.

@meduz,
That is…strange. You say that you’re using a mission control gesture, but it seems like you’re just dragging/resizing the window normally – am I missing something?

Additionally, on my end, resizing windows with any number of tabs (few or many) seems to be working without issue:

Yes: there’s a link to a Tweet on the second bullet point of my message (“video”).

I’ve also noticed an issue has been opened on GitHub, so there are probably more users affected by this problem.

Looks like it was just opened yesterday and I see that you added your report to the thread. Thank you for providing the information – please give the devs some time to review the issue.

Happens for me as in the video. Just dragging. No guestures.

Note that Brave also does not save any passwords on websites. I suppose, this is unrelated but who knows…

Today, I had some additional behaviour: I typically close Brave with open windows. After reboot on the next day, I will have the same windows with the same resize-issue.
Today, that naughty window has a bigger minimum size.
What’s more, it was stuck on the uppper edge of the screen. When I dragged the window down (not resizing but changing the location on the screen), the window always snapped back. That behaviour went away a whil later after I had closed a few tabs.
