Description of the issue:
How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. I plug in headphones and sound continues to come out of speakers. Chrome working normally with sound coming through headphones
  2. I connect Bluetooth headphones and sounds continues to go through speakers. Chrome working normally with sound coming through headphones.

Expected result:
To have sound come through headphones connected via AUX or Bluetooth
Brave Version( check About Brave):

v1.70.126

Additional Information:

@tadashi03,
Can’t think of any reason why this would be occurring — I just tested on my end with my Bluetooth headphones and everything worked as expected.

Do you have any extensions installed in the browser at this time? Further, I know that you said that other browsers are working properly but regardless, does your system also show that the headphones are being used when they’re connected (you can check via the “sounds” icon in the system tray)?

Yes, they are connected and the system is aware. For example, I’m watching a video on Youtube with bluetooth headphone connected, I try to adjust the volume on my keyboard and it doesn’t change as if it is connected to external devices. Also, I just test aux headphones and I can hear a glitch in the sound so the system recognizes that it is getting plugged in and out but the sound continues to go through the speakers.

@tadashi03,
Would you be willing to download and test the Beta build of the browser for me and let me know if you see the same behavior in the Beta?

It works! Beta has no issues. Bluetooth and cable headphones working fine in Brave Beta

@tadashi03,
Thank you for testing. I’m wondering if you have any extensions installed in the stable build of the browser that might be causing this conflict?

No, not that I can think of. Nothing new that would have had any affect on it. Any suggestions on what kind of extensions could cause it and any possible fixes? I don’t want to remove Brave and re-download because I’ll lose the ability to earn BAT since I live in the US. Uphold doesn’t work for me and Gemini says it’s not available in the US. I suppose I’m grandfathered in at this point.

I’m assuming you are on Windows.
Open youtube in Brave and check Brave is set to default output in App Volume and Device Preferences.

To get there hit [Start], [Run] and paste this:

ms-settings:apps-volume

Hit [OK]

It worked! It was set to default. I manually changed it to the headphones which got the sound coming through. I switched back to default and then it started working automatically, just as before. THANK YOU both for all of your help!

@alankillie great sleuthing — I should have thought of this earlier when I suggested checking “sounds” the tray.
