Some Japanese kanji appear as Chinese hanzi

Description of the issue: Some characters like 直, 残, 海 and 判 appear as the Chinese Hanzi versions. However, it only appears correctly in certain places such as when I’m typing this issue and in the URL in the search bar. When searching for a single character, like 直, it shows results for the Chinese version. And other sites like Reddit can also have the issue, and end up seeing Chinese characters in Japanese text.

Though, I’m only seeing it occur on a few apps. Google play store, Gmail, YouTube, Reddit, Discord and AnkiDroid all show them correctly but it gets weird with browsers. Firefox does not have the issue, yet Brave, Chrome and Edge all have the issue which makes me think it’s chromium trusted on Android. However, rest l each of these are probably using different curriculum versions, and I only use Brave.

How can this issue be reproduced? Just search for any of the characters listed above as an example. Also under phone settings I have Japanese added as another language which is meant to help but I think that only solved the issue for most apps. Under languages in the brave browser there’s a section for adding multiple languages and reordering them with Japanese listed second (moving it to the top will make all sites Japanese). Again, didn’t do anything but just losing things I did related to the issue just to recreate the settings I had.

Expected result: Characters would be down as Japanese kanji visually, but also be treated as kanji when searching, for example.
