Simpler Rewards please

I have been using Brave for about three months and am delighted with it. I thought I would join the Rewards program and send bats to my favorite YouTubers. I have no interest in crypto or need to make money this way. My concern in signing up was that it’s very complicated with the 12 word phrase and giving out a id document and selfie.
I watch scam busters so I am keeping my id to myself; thats the attraction to Brave after all.
Could there be a simpler rewards that did not include holding Cryptocurrency and the associated ID checks?

I believe Edge Rewards is more appropriate for your goals.

As of now, Brave rewards need to be withdrawn through a Custodial account therefore KYC/AML needs to be done. Therefore, there’s nothing that can be done.
You’ll say why can’t you just use a non custodial wallet?

I don’t want to use Edge.

Okay, so I can’t do it yet. I just use Brave without the rewards.
Thanks for the info.

Just a FYI. You can still participate in Rewards and view ads to support Creators if you’d like. It just will contribute BAT based on how much time you spend watching videos of your favorite YouTubers and other content, so long as they are Verified Creators. To do this, you don’t have to provide any of your information.

The only time you need to connect to Uphold or anything similar and go through the KYC/AML process is if you want to earn BAT for yourself. But if you’re doing it just to support Creators, the base level of Rewards is still available. You just won’t have direct control over anything.

Otherwise do as others mentioned and you can disable Rewards and not have to deal with ads/ad notifications at all.

Thanks. So how do I know who are Verified Creators?
So if I watch these creators they get the BAT or some other support, is that right?

There’s 2 primary ways. The primary though is when you visit their site or content, you should see New Tab - Brave 4_20_2023 08_40_25. The triangle is almost always there as the Rewards button, but the checkmark there means the site you’re visiting is a verified creator.

A second way is to click on that triangle. It will show you the site and if verified. For example:

The 2nd one can help confirm for you if you’re seeing things right. For example, if I go to YouTube or Reddit, sometimes it will say unverified but when I check, it’s showing for YouTube.com. So you need to check if it’s showing the channel or just the site. If it’s showing the channel, it will look like one of the two below:

Great information. I will check all my You Tubers. Is that it, do I have to join rewards or just watch.

You’d have to make sure Rewards are enabled. This would generate things like ad notifications on your device. Those generate BAT in the background and will auto contribute. That is all you need to do. No clicking ads or anything.

Make sure you realize the difference between Brave’s ads and others. Ads on websites aren’t ads from Brave. Brave ads only show on New Tab Page, Brave News, and as a notification on your device. (And soon can be missed in results on Brave Search). If you need help understanding what these look like, I can help differentiate.

For a more detailed list with verified creators can be found here.

Thanks again. I have Brave Private ads turned on but not connected to a custodial account. Is that the correct setting for what I have asked?

Yes, that’s correct.
