Seeing Unwanted Search Suggestions in Address Bar

Description of the issue: In the search bar, instead of seeing suggestions for just history or search history, I am now seeing autocomplete search results for seemingly random things. The improve search suggestions toggle is off.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Turn off the improve search suggestions toggle.
  2. Start typing anything in the address bar.
  3. See things unrelated to history or search history.

Expected result: The address bar only looks for suggestions in history.

Brave Version( check About Brave): 1.77.95

Additional Information: See attached image. In the image, “brave” and “brave the dark” insert themselves into the list of suggestions.

Improve search suggestions

When you type in the address bar or search box, Brave sends what you type to your default search engine to get better suggestions. This is OFF in Private.

@steeven @Mattches Can you please investigate the user above (289wk)? This appears to be an AI account. The response looks logical at first glance, but it is actually nonsense, and does not solve the OP’s problem (which I would also like to see an actual solution for). Thanks.

I get the same, I have selected only Bookmarks, for autocomplete, yet I get same suggestions alongside my bookmarks

This has been fixed in Beta and Nightly.

Thanks saku, hopefully it will roll out to a stable release soon.

Does 289wk win the award for most useless AI bot ever?

Thank you very much.
