Recently started to see ads on new tab page. Googled what is that and figured it is new rewards program. Great, but not for me, so I went to disable it.
And found out that to disable it I need to enable rewards program first at brave://rewards/
But when I do so - it asks for my country, detects it by default and shows error message that my country is not available in participating.
I’ve never wanted to, but this basically blocks me from disabling ads…
@leviann generally is helpful to get more information. For example, below are two potentially different things you could be seeing based on the country you’re in.
If it’s the one above, then you’re from a country like Russia where Rewards isn’t available because of the war going on. Brave doesn’t offer Rewards or campaigns because of sanctions and all. But I don’t think this is the message you’re getting.
But if it’s the one just above this, then it means your country has ads but the partners are not allowing your country to connect. So Uphold, Gemini, or other such custodial accounts aren’t available. In this case, you can see ads but you don’t earn for yourself unless/until you get an on-chain invite to be able to connect to Solana.
These can always be disabled. Go to the customize option, background images, and scroll to the bottom to turn off the toggle, as you can see in the screenshot below:
Or if you have Rewards enabled, you would see at brave://rewards
a toggle for it, such as:
Oh, and this isn’t true. Brave never makes people enable Rewards to turn off ads.
