In order to install Windows 11, I had to upgrade my hardware (motherboard, processor, RAM, and hard drive). My hard drives were at least 10 years old and utilized an MBR partition; Windows 11 requires a GPT partition. I have the backups for the old hard drives (MBR) and have installed Brave on the new (GPT) hard drive with Windows 11. Where do I find the sidebar/bookmark data that is in my Windows 10 backups and can I just drop it in the same location on my basically new Windows 11 machine?
@gtsquires,
Yes — for bookmarks this should work.
The file you’re looking for is aptly named Bookmarks
and can be found on your Windows 10 system in
C:\Users\[YourUsername]\AppData\Local\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\Default
Copy the file to your new machine, then paste it in that same directory on your Win11 machine (if there is already a Bookmarks
file present, make sure you paste and replace so that only the correct one is present.
It worked! Took a little time to find and access the directories (they were hidden) starting with “AppData” but I got there. Also had to close and reopen Brave to verify the bookmarks were restored.
Thanks.
