hi,
every time I connect my account from Uphold, it says Region is currently not supported. I am from Australia.
hi,

I’m guessing you’re not originally from Australia but currently living there? I ask because the API pulls location data from your Uphold account, primarily based on the passport you provided during account creation. If you submitted a passport from another country and later moved to Australia, even with an updated address, it would still identify your original country of citizenship. To reflect the change, you’d need to provide a new passport or proof of nationality change.
I see. Is it required as a citizen of the country rather than the current location?
@jsngjts it’s both, essentially. I’m afraid of saying this wrong, but it is really easy to fake a mailing address. In many countries it doesn’t require much for ID to get utilities or some proof of mailing at a home, even if you don’t actually live there. So the API that’s built out is set to focus only on government ID, such as the passport.
While in most cases you likely would need to be a citizen of the country, there are some exceptions. For example, I do believe they will let you use a driver’s license in some or all countries instead of just a passport. You can get a driver’s license or State ID here in the United States without being a citizen. That could then be used for the ID needed to replace your passport on Uphold but would have to specifically request they update that.
I’m just not well versed enough on what Uphold will use for each country to verify. Only know it needs to be government ID, which isn’t required if you just do a simple change of address.
