Redirect to bing when using google

Ive been using brave for a while no problem but recently ive noticed it redirects bing whenever using the search bar. Going to a website is fine it goes there but normal searches always go to bing. Ive reinstalled still same issue. It only happens with google as default engien. Others are fine. When i recorded this i noticed a quick redirect happening before visiting bing.

Im not sure what popularapp is. Ive run virus scans many times. The redirect only happens with google as default engine on brave. Chrome works fine.

@bungo I don’t know which virus scan you’re using, but it may not be a good one. Main thing though is the activity you’re saying usually is from one of the following:

• Virus

• Malware

• Extension

I’d look into the extensions you have on your browser, especially any you didn’t add yourself or any you might have added just prior to this issue occurring.

Beyond that, I’d run Malwarebytes and see if it picks up on anything.

I came across your post after having the same issue and looking for a solution.

It appears to be an extension causing this, I’d suggest disabling each extension one by one and testing to see if that resolves the issue.
For me the problem seemed to be caused by “Volume Booster Plus 0.7.5.0” once I disabled this the redirect issue was gone. Re-enable and it came back.

Nothing was picked up by Bitdefender or Malwarebytes either, so to anyone else experiencing this re-direct issue I would definitely suggest you disable extensions one by one and hopefully that will identify which is causing the problem.
