This stopped working a few days ago. After clearing browser data posts got marked as read (grayed out) as usual, but it only worked for that session (after closing brave and opening it again, it was back to not working).

No, only did it to see if it would fix the problem.
Is reddit the only site in which visited links do not appear visited?
Yes, it’s only on reddit.
Only other related issue was after clearing browsing data all mails on Gmail showed as unread, and it had no effect opening them, but it went back to normal after receiving new mail and is working fine now.
Could be an installed extension causing the behavior – what extensions do you have installed at this time? Does disabling them make any difference?
Only extension I have installed is MetaMask, just tried disabling it and it makes no difference.
And I’m assuming you do not have Forget me when I close this site enabled in Shields for the affected sites?
Correct, not enabled.
Don’t know if this helps but did a quick re-login on reddit, after that posts gets marked as read, but again only for that session.
