Recovering my old BAT

Years ago like probably 2019 before the days of Uphold I had a BAT wallet in my browser which contained more that 200 BAT.

Somehow in the course of upgrading I lost connection to that wallet with my installed browser.

I recovered the preference files from that old installation which should contain my wallet ID from the time somewhere. Is there something I can do to recover the BAT in that old wallet from say 2020 ?

I do have a notebook where I wrote down a 24 word recovery phrase back when I first got that BAT wallet in the browser. It would be great if there were a wallet i could plug that into to recover.

@moonraccoon I’m trying to think back to the original setup, and I’m pretty confident you’re not actually referring to the “Wallet,” which is Brave’s built-in crypto wallet for managing cryptocurrency. There’s a significant difference between the Wallet and Rewards.

Assuming you’re talking about Rewards and the payments that were once received directly to the browser, that system is no longer active, and there’s no way to recover or use those funds now. The old BAT stored in the browser was known as vBAT (virtual BAT). Brave made numerous announcements over an extended period informing users that vBAT was being sunset and that they needed to connect to a custodial account (like Uphold or Gemini) to transfer their funds. Anyone who didn’t complete the transfer before the deadline unfortunately lost their vBAT permanently.

Here are some examples of the announcements Brave made at the time:
