Print to pdf from gmail creates corrupted, unreadable pdf

When clicking on the print icon above an email in gmail, the standard print dialog opens. From there, I select “microsoft print to pdf”. I print the pdf, everything appears to work normally. The file shows up in “recent files” in file explorer, the dialog appears to complete successfully. However the file doesn’t actually exist in the saved folder in file explorer, and when I click the “recent files” shortcut for the file, adobe acrobat gives me the error “There was an error opening this document. The file cannot be found.”
