This depends on how the site implements the pdf embedded. PDF Extensions may change this, but without extensions we rely on how the site embeds pdf’s.

The problem is that all my utility sites, etc., used to open in my browser and now none of them do.

Sample website, with link to pdf?

@CityguyUSA

Three Utility websites for you to test:

Con Edison - New York City and Westchester

PPL Electric Utilities (formed as Pennsylvania Power & Light)
https://www.pplelectric.com/

Rhode Island Energy (a PPL company)

And exactly how am I supposed to get a pdf from their sites when I’m not a customer?

Try https://search.brave.com/search?q=test+pdf and click on the various links, do these open? (without an extension)

I don’t know what to give you. It’s all account statements that have my personal info on. But I can’t find a single one that works except one bank that I think is using it’s own pdf software to open the statement.

The first one opened and told me I had Adobe Acrobat installed I do not or at least it’s not listed in my Add/Remove programs. The second one opened but said it was a word document

The 3rd one opened a video.

Conversely of all my utilities/banks that have pdfs 2 opened and 5 did not. They all used to.

@CityguyUSA,

You wrote:

My reply provided 3 utilities websites, for you to test if those websites would open in your browser. Testing if Brave Browser on your computer, can actually connect successfully to those websites.

We’re talking about pdfs.

Tx for the tip:

Testing . . .

Mac OS 10.12.6 ‘Sierra’
Brave Browser for Mac v1.40.113
Brave Browser > New Private Window(s)
brave://settings/content/pdfDocuments > Open PDFs in Brave
No Extensions
Global Shields UP and Aggressive/Strict (and same for each specific-site)

1st PDF test file

https://s29.q4cdn.com/816090369/files/doc_downloads/test.pdf

RESULT: PDF opened in Brave Browser:

That ‘you have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed’ seems to be an assumption by the website.

2nd PDF test file

https://www.americanexpress.com/content/dam/amex/us/staticassets/pdf/GCO/Test_PDF.pdf

RESULT: PDF opened in Brave Browser:

PDF apparently produced from Microsoft Word.

3rd PDF test file

https://www.w3.org/WAI/ER/tests/xhtml/testfiles/resources/pdf/dummy.pdf

RESULT: PDF opened in Brave Browser:

4th PDF test file

https://www.clickdimensions.com/links/TestPDFfile.pdf

RESULT: PDF opened in Brave Browser:

Most of these are actually png files. Captures of pdfs but not pdfs.
