PC crash Windows 11 Brave now won't launch

My PC crashed tonight. A power outage. When the PC was back up and running Brave would not launch from shortcuts or even the exe file. All other browsers launch, but all my info is on Brave. I have Windows 11. Hope someone can help

@Soggy55

Back up your User Data folder:

C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Local\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\

Make a new Shortcut for brave.exe - see the following, for where that is (yes, you know, but take a look at):

Brave crash every time - #2 by 289wk

. . . and for tips on how to start up Brave Browser - unburdened - and then deal with crash reporting. Yet, you may need to reinstall Brave Browser - you could use either source:

https://brave.com/download/

https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/releases/tag/v1.80.115

Something(s) might be banged up / wounded inside your User Data folder, and you might have to piece together a restoration - using pieces from the backup that you make. See:

Brave doesn't start when I run it as administrator and Brave Shield doesn't work - #73 by clifton

Thanks for this. I am having no joy. A few updates. Brave works on my older PC running windows 10. On my current PC, I created a new local user account and signed in with that. Brave loads (W11). I uninstalled Brave and re-installed it (in desperation) - but it still doesn’t work … looks like it is going to open but the soft closes. Maybe it has more to do with my Windows account? Any help appreciated

@Soggy55 if it’s related to the new issue then you would need to do two things:

  1. Make sure you aren’t running as administrator. It seems a lot of people changed this setting for some reason. So not only in the idea of not right clicking and launch, but make sure you also right click on the Brave icon → Properties → Compatibility and make sure you don’t have Run this program as an administrator checked.

  1. Change the folder permissions like Clifton mentioned around Brave doesn't start when I run it as administrator and Brave Shield doesn't work - #41 by clifton.

I’m assuming yours is going to be related to that and should resolve with the two. But if not then might need to check your antivirus/firewall to see if they are blocking. We could also start toying around commands to open new profile, rename folders, etc. But let’s just start with the above.

Thank you so much. I hadn’t changed the setting to run as administrator. Everything was fine. There was a power outage and on restart Brave would’t load. I unticked the administrator box and and it all came back!! Could the power outage have caused the change in administrator status? Very odd - but thank you so much - I have been trying things all morning to a great level of frustration.
