Passwords disappeared in v1.77.97

Description of the issue:

Suddenly all of my passwords and settings disappeared

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Have passwords
  2. Open browser
  3. Don’t have passwords anymore

Expected result:

Still have passwords

Brave Version( check About Brave):
v1.77.97

Additional Information:

The file with the passwords Login Data is still there and full of encrypted data. I tried launching the v1.79.60 but the passwords still don’t show.

Thanks, is it possible to recover my passwords on windows? I haven’t changed anything on my PC before losing the passwords

@thecatishere no real simple way really. If had just been a changed password then often changing back might work. But if something else kind of broke it, I don’t know that there’s anything that can be done. Especially if not knowing what exactly would have interrupted the OSCrypt thing.

I will tag in @Mattches to see if he might be able to give any other thoughts.

Will have to ask @szilardszaloki about this – @thecatishere can you confirm that you’ve gone through the article linked by @Saoiray and none of those cases apply to you?

PS > net user victor *
Type a password for the user:
Retype the password to confirm:
System error 5 has occurred.

Access is denied.

This fails with the password i log in with :S

Is the password being asked for your system password?

It should be the password of my user, no? I don’t know what this net user command is

Where are you being asked for this password?

nevermind, i misunderstood the command it makes no sense what i have typed.

Honestly, i have no idea what happened and how to fix it.

Is it possible for windows to invalidate cryptography keys when linking with Microsoft account after being created without it? I think I logged into a microsoft service with my account and it linked it to my OS user back then
