I use IDM (a download manager) to download nearly everything i download. and while the downloader that is built in to brave is ok, i would like to see a feature added to ONLY use a download manager on windows desktops (or across the board) but mostly windows as my android can navigate downloads without issue due to having root access. this is somewhat a feature in google chrome (at least i dont have two downloads of the same thing starting) one in the browser, and one in my download manager.
example being- i start to download a rar file in IDM (or in general) brave will auto start (or ask depending on option i tick) where to save it to while IDM is already downloading this file. its something i (and i assume others) have dealt with for a while now. so, is there anyway to disable the browser from downloading/catching downloads all together?
@craxton,
You can do this via Windows Group Policy management. You can view how to add/remove policies in Brave here:
You will want to add the DownloadRestrictions
policy which you can find more information on here:
i do not have group policy on my windows machine sadly.
is there a command i could run to do the same thing, or registry edit?
update- issue was with IDM as far as i can tell, or braves update broke the
grabber thats built into IDM… either way i resolved the issue by using a registry edit
to remove all the IDM registry items inside it, then re adding only brave!
registry edit is from IDM which goes as following
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\DownloadManager\IDMBI registry key and delete sub keys for (browsers you have issues with, or ones you dont use)
you can manually re add them in the IDM app.
leaving this here for someone else who may encounter this strange issue.
