Opening new window on click (add)

Description of the issue: New window is opened after clicking on a “video”
How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Go to https://www.popcornfilmovi.com/
  2. Click to play any movie/tv show
  3. After page of that movie load, clicking on a “play” icon opens a url in a new window

Expected result: New window is prevented from being opened and notification is shown:
How Firefox does it: https://i.imgur.com/OGpkFts.png

Brave Version( check About Brave): v1.44.105 (Sep 30th, 2022)
OS Version: Linux Mint 21 Kernel 5.15.0-48-generic
Additional Information: It would be nice to prevent all popups/new windows and a notification is shown to enable popup/new windows for specific domain or one time

Hello there @muskula please accept my apologies for this inconvenience.

If a new window is opened when you try to play any movie/tv show on that page, you can enable these shields filters Fanboy Annoyances List and uBlock Annoyances List to block most ads and trackers on the web.

To select them click on this link brave://settings/shields/filters then on filters list, search and check on the boxes corresponding to the ones mentioned previously.

Additionally, you can set your shields tracker and ad blocking to agresive.

Let me know if that works.
Regards.

Hello @Kevin_cc,
Thank you for replying!

I enabled the shields filter you have mentioned above, but it didn’t work. Can Brave prevent new windows/popups by default, and only allow those if we explicitly allow it?

Hello again @muskula if you have your shields enabled, Brave will prevent those ads and new windows to open. However if they still appear, you could try changing your shield options to aggressive.

Go to Shields > Advanced controls > Block trackers and ads > Aggressively block all trackers and ads.

Let me know if that works.
Regards.
