Open file dialog not working on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS

On a clean install of Ubuntu 24.04 LTS the open file dialog does not work properly on Brave or Firefox, but does work on Chrome.

The open file dialog appears when needed, but if you double click on a file or select a file and click open, the dialog disappears without actually opening the file. The exact same behavior occurs with Firefox, but not Chrome.

This makes it impossible to install certificates (for example), and makes many websites unusable (e.g. you can’t add attachments in web-based mail apps), so I am temporarily switching to Chrome for most of my browsing, which makes me very sad…

I don’t think this is Brave’s fault, it is almost surely Ubuntu’s fault, since Firefox (the default browser!) has the exact same problem. But the fact that Chrome works correctly makes me think there is a (possibly easy) workaround that would make Brave compatible with Ubuntu 24.04. Given that this is a long-term release that is likely to be adopted by many Brave/Linux users in the coming years, it seems worth addressing.

In case it is relevant, I am running Ubuntu 24.04 LTS on a brand new Framework16, with an AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS CPU using integrated graphics (no GPU). I’m sure I could fix the problem by reverting to 22.04, but I would really rather not do that.
