OneDrive website will not load in Brave

This seems to happen regularly.

Description of the issue: https://onedrive.live.com/ will not load. Wheel spins in tab header, but never resolves
How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. I’m able to run https://onedrive.live.com/ on other browsers
  2. I try to run from shortcut
  3. I try to run by typing URL directly
  4. I try to run by launching “View Online” from the taskbar icon

Expected result: I expect to have https://onedrive.live.com/ load

Brave Version: 1.76.74

Additional Information:

@fanboynz @Mattches I’m able to replicate. Seems not to be an issue with Shields down.

Turn off Shields when I see the page like above and then it loads.

@RJRon after I turned off Shields in those redirect links they had and it logged me in, it’s kept me logged in. So like I just exited out of Brave and returned, but clicking on the link opened right away.

And even when I signed out, I was able to return and sign in again. So it just seems like there’s something that was being blocked, an “in-between” thing they were handling in the login. Perhaps is a workaround based on what I was sharing, otherwise hopefully those from Brave I tagged in will be able to look and help you figure it out.

Thanks Saoiray. I don’t get a “This site can’t be reached” screen. The wheel in the tab header just never stops spinning and no redirect. I can load OneDrive if I start with a “New Private Window” from the Brave menu, but that is it. I tried it with Shields down and still have the same issue.

@RJRon oh, I see. In which case it would suggest that it may just be you needing to clear cookies or perhaps an extension.

@Saoiray I’ve done that in the past, and again just now, but it didn’t help. Cleared history, cookies and cache and turned off all extensions. Still have same problem… wheel on tab spins indefinitely but OneDrive never opens. This is the 3rd time this has happened since I started using Brave. The other 2 times, I had given up and it just started working again, after weeks. It is really annoying.

@RJRon would you be willing to do something of a small experiment? Create a second browser profile. The hamburger menu imageMore ToolsAdd new profile.

This will create a second browser profile with no extensions and the majority of settings at default. In that profile, I want you to avoid adding any extensions and to try to leave settings “as is” overall. Try using OneDrive from there.

If it loads with no issues, then would like you to try to use that profile whenever you’re wanting to do anything on OneDrive. This isn’t a permanent thing, but maybe a few days to weeks. The key aspect here is to see if the problem ends up happening there or if it continues to work flawlessly.

The results either way will help in excluding potential causes and knowing more of what to look at.

My theory in this is that everything will work just fine. But even if that’s wrong, it would be interesting to see how long it takes before it goes from working properly until you start having issues again.

@Saoiray OneDrive loaded fine with the new profile, as you expected.

Since my last comment, I would daily test to see if I was able to access OneDrive from my main profile… with no luck. Today, I decided to try to login through the Microsoft.com site. Select Microsoft 365, select Products, select Apps and Services: OneDrive, and try to sign in from there with my Microsoft Live account. No luck. Thinking the problem could be tied to my MS account, I tried to sign in with my son’s Microsoft Live account. Still no luck, stuck with the spinning wheel on User Email. I clicked “back” on the browser control which took me to the blank sign in screen again and this time I used my own Microsoft Live account again and it worked. I can now get in and out of OneDrive effortlessly again.

I’m trying to not look a gift horse in the mouth… but what a pain!

@RJRon yeah, but in terms of testing if it worked consistently in the new profile, had you been switching for that? Or did you abort that test because it was too annoying?

I mean, at this point I think we can be fairly certain that your issue is cookies or extensions overall. It could potentially be settings but not sure what to say.

But I guess if it’s working effortlessly for you again now, maybe it’s resolved? If it was a bad cookie then maybe your doing everything you did was able to replace it.

Hi @Saoiray,
During my daily tests, once my normal profile failed, I would test the new profile which always worked… and still does. I’m sure your assessment is correct. At the beginning of this I did clear my cookies and cache and ran without extensions and Shields, but no luck. Also, you were able to replicate my problem. Are you still able to replicate it from your side?
