I suspect its checking for a VPN
I do have a VPN but its worked without issue in the past. I turned off the VPN and was still blocked. Refreshed ther browser as well
@Cornell need more details and troubleshooting. Just so you know, there’s no issue on the browser in general. As you can see from the screenshot below, I went to New York Times and was able to read through articles.
It’s likely either:
All of that said, it’s generally just the VPN which you admitted to using. When you visited you likely had cache/cookie injected when it identified you with potential bot due to VPN. Even while disabling VPN, it’s possible it’s just detected the prior cache/cookies. And refreshing the page in itself wouldn’t be enough to purge that.
Again though, not sure what extensions or other programs you’re using which might also be triggering their protections. As it said, it could be IP address but it could also be something like you trying to block or control scripts. So if you’re using adblockers other than Shields, potentially using things like Tampermonkey, etc.
Thanks.
I think its one of my browser security extensions. Strange as it didnt impact in the past.
@Cornell have you tried opening it in a private window? Or creating a second browser profile to see if it works there?
Both of these options are ways to test if an extension or cookies are causing a problem. The private window should open the temporary session that has no saved cookies and unless you changed settings it will also have all extensions disabled.
The new (second) browser profile goes one step further to where it’s actually creating something that has absolutely no cookies or extensions, and most of the settings at default.
The third thing to check usually would be if things are still broken when you turn off Shields. If turning it off allows content to load and turning it on stops it then you know that it is settings there.
These three things are very simple to check and will usually yield results. If a problem persists and all of the troubleshooting steps then it often indicates that a problem is happening because of something other than the browser.
