I use brave, and I use the news feed on the new tabs. I mainly want news on politics.
I click on the politics channel and it only shows a website called “politico” which is not a news organisation I’ve heard of and I couldn’t trust them less. I clicked “don’t show from this site” and now the whole section is empty.
I’ve gone through and removed every other channel, and also removed and readded the politics one and it is still empty. I don’t understand why it won’t show me any news, there is definitely news in politics going on right now, and its not like there’s only one news company that exists out there.
What annoys me more, is I can add a particular news site as its own channel (like bbc for example) and it will show me politics news from that website. I just want to see political news from other websites or just anything at all now. This has made me so god damn annoyed.
@whyrequireanaccount it’s generally helpful if you can always try to remember to share details such as what version of Brave and OS that you are using. I just tried replicating on my Windows 11 Pro using Brave 1.69.168 and am not having any issues except that images aren’t always loading for some reason.
Thanks for confirming that. Part of me was hoping had been outdated and updating would fix. I am curious if you could test on a second profile and see if it happens to work there. And other thing might be to say to try to install Brave on top of your current version (don’t uninstall, just run the installer again from brave.com/download ) and see if that resolves.
In the meanwhile, let me also tag in @Mattches to see if he has any ideas what else to consider.
This is why nothing is appearing there. You do need to have sources for News to pull from before it can display that content. These sources can be the ones pre-loaded with Brave or they can be custom sources that you’ve added yourself.
For example, when I click the Politics category in News, I see the following:
Brave News does not pull from any/all sites on the internet to display content in that category — it only pulls from sources that have been added to it (again, whether they be custom sources added by you or the ones that come with the browser by default).
If you want to be able to view political content in the Brave News stream, you need to add sources to it from sites that display that content. You can do this by clicking in the search bar at the top of the Customize screen (shown in the above screen shots) and searching for the site/content you’d like to add. For RSS feeds, simply enter the URL for the RSS feed you’d like to add into that box, and click the + icon when it appears. For example, here I’m adding the kotaku.com RSS feed to my Brave News sources here:
@whyrequireanaccount,
Thank you for the information. It does seem like it is in fact a bug — can you please tell me the locale in which you are located/that this issue is occuring?
