When I upgraded Brave today to the latest (1.63.165) and re-opened, when I clicked on my Metamask extension to log in, it brought up the dialog but it didn’t have the password field yet. It just showed the spinning icon and that hung forever. Note that Coinbase Wallet and BNB Chain Wallet (the old one) both work fine. It only blocks Metamask. You really have to give up on having a wallet in the browser that blocks others, especially the number one wallet, Metamask. I’ve gone through all the settings and did everything I could to turn off the Brave Wallet including setting things to extensions only with no fallback and turning off the Brave Wallet. It still blocks Metamask. This needs to be fixed fast. For now, I’ll go back to Chrome.
Since I noticed that Coinbase Wallet and BNB Chain wallet were working, I decided to install Rabby wallet. Brave is blocking the download and giving a “download interrupted” message when I try to install Rabby Wallet. The same happens with BlockWallet. So not only does Brave block Metamask, it keeps you from installing Rabby or BlockWallet. Brave is destroying their good reputation with this predatory activity trying to get you to use their un-trustworthy wallet.
Metamask is working in all my Chrome browsers and they are all up to date so this is very specific to the combination of Brave and Metamask. Note my screenshot of Chrome here and also Brave.
I tried the solution in that thread but it didn’t work for me. What else can I try?
I figured out that my Metamask is stuck at version 11.7.3. Nothing I do makes the version go up. I know that I can remove the extension and completely re-install it, but then I lose all my configuration. Even if I reload the same wallet, I lose all my naming of accounts and all the chains and tokens (have to “remember” them all and redefine them). Is there any way to remove the extension, but keep all that configuration so that when I do a fresh install and import my wallet, that I can then restore something (json config files or something like that) and get back all my configs?
@mecorusfc you may need to contact Metamask directly since it is an issue related to their app. That said, let me tag in @Mattches to see if he has any advice on perhaps getting the extension to update in Brave or if can help find out why you’re having problems with the update and/or it not asking for your password when trying to use Metamask.
Hello! Unfortunately, if you reset the wallet you’ll lose personalization of your account names. I can’t speak for MetaMask, but Brave Wallet will automatically recognize most tokens with the option to add custom tokens if necessary.
Have you tried restarting both your device and browser before updating with these instructions? Have you tried with Developer Mode toggled on? https://support.metamask.io/hc/en-us/articles/360060268452-How-to-update-the-version-of-MetaMask
Thanks!
Yes, I must have done that update in Dev mode 20 times. I’ve exited and restarted both the browser and the machine. I’ve erased cookies and cache. Nothing will allow Metamask to update. Yet over in my multiple Chrome browsers (with multiple profiles), it has been working great. So my solution now is that I’ve set up another Chrome profile in Chrome, installed metamask, imported my wallet, set up all the networks the best I could (looking at how they are set up in other Chrome browsers), Unfortunately, I’ve lost my account naming and some other personalization by doing this. If nobody can find a solution for Metamask to work in Brave, I’ll give up on Brave. I have liked Brave and at one point, thought I might move all my Chrome profiles to Brave. However, it looks like I’ll be leaving Brave behind. Metamask works great in Chrome and Opera. Brave is still too new and too buggy to rely on, especially for crypto.
Right now there are problems with Brave Browser and trying to swap on Robots.Farm for DEX Swaps. It’s working on Chrome Browser, but showing a failure in Brave with RabbyWallet or with MetaMask Wallet.
The problems with Brave + RabbyWallet continue to grow…
Hello! What are your default wallet settings currently?
To get you right it would be best to use " Extensions (no fallback)", if I wanna have RabbyWallet as default?
Extensions, no fallback would automatically choose Rabby every time and will not fallback to Brave Wallet.
Thanks for your help and your heads up. Appreciate your time.
Happy to help! Thanks for your support.
